The Sword Of Gideon Amulet

The amulet is shaped like a sword and is engraved with the words:

This translates to: 'Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.' and is taken from the book of Joshua, from the chapter telling the story of the Israelites battle against the Amorites:

"Then spoke Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel: 'Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.' {Joshua 10, 12}.

The engraved sentence is a well cited one from the bible, as it tells of a miracle in which the LORD has changed the "Order of Creation" to aid the Israelites defeat their enemy before the sun sets and darkness takes over. And indeed so had happened. To Joshua's request the sun and moon held their position in the sky until victory was complete.

The place of Gideon is also mentioned in the book of Melakhim ("Kings") as the place in which King Solomon witnessed the LORD in his dream:

"In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said: 'Ask what I shall give thee" { Melakhim, Chapter 3, verse 5}.

The bible tells us that Solomon asked for nothing for himself, just for wisdom to know right from wrong, so he could judge the people of Israel with fairly and be a just ruler. The LORD not only granted Solomon that but gave him also riches and fortune, and according to Jewish mysticism, also the spiritual ability to command worlds and beings beyond the realm of our known physical world.
